There are two different types of fear. The first type is a healthy kind of fear. It’s the kind that will save your life if you are about to be in a car accident. This type of fear heightens your awareness and sharpens your perception. In contrast, is the second type of fear that is negative and unhealthy. It is the fear that sneaks up on you, via negative thinking. It is often a fear of situations that you have no control over. It is an anticipation of something going wrong in your life. Living in fear can be mentally paralyzing and cause physical illness. Here are 4 ways that you can overcome fear in your life.

1. Live in the Present Moment

Right now, in this very moment in time, is there an immediate threat to your life? Hopefully, the answer is no. When fearful thoughts arise, bring yourself into the present moment. One of the easiest ways that you can do this is through the stillness of meditation. All you really need to do is sit in silence, and become aware of your breath. Whether you meditate alone or with others, it is an ideal way to bring your attention to the now, and away from the worries and cares of the mind.

2. Don’t Add Fuel to the Fire

If you are feeling fearful or anxious, choose activities that can bring you out of it. Taking a walk in nature, for example, is a great way to clear your mind. If you are feeling worried about becoming deathly ill, don’t watch the statistics on the morning news about the number of people who have died from the pandemic. If you feel fearful that a burglar might break in and do you harm, don’t watch murder mystery shows before you go to bed at night.

3. Count Your Blessings

Many times it is easy to focus on the negative things in life or worry about bad things that could happen throughout the day. In order to view your life in a more positive light, it is a good idea throughout your day to write down the things that you are thankful for. Try writing down ten things each day, no matter how small, that you felt blessed by. This can really help to shift your focus.

Remember that you are the one in charge of your life and your happiness. Taking control of your mind can be done with a bit of positivity and willpower.
